Libraries form vital part of the world's system of communication and
education. Libraries are also playing an important role in preserving a society's cultural heritage ( liber means book). Libraries
have many books and other materials that communicate, educate and entertain. These materials include magazines, newspapers,
pamphlets, disc and tab recordings, films, photograph, micro reproductions, computerized information, painting, musical scores
and maps.
College, University and Research library : College, University and Research libraries maintain
large collection of detailed research materials for advanced student and scholars. A College or University library is a complex
institution.
School library : School libraries have collection
that provides more basic information needed by school students.
Government library :Government library collections
are geared chiefly towards serving the needs of government officials.
Public library : Public libraries range in size from
large to small. But the goal is to be provided maximum service to the community.
Special library : Thousands of special libraries provide information for professional people
such as advertising specialists, bankers, editors, engineers, lawyers, physicians and scientists.
